How a journey helped me step into my potential

Can a trip to Antarctica change your life? I came home after 10 days on an expedition. I felt revitalized and renewed. I had a clean slate; as if I had left all my emotional baggage on the dock.

There is little life in Antarctica, strangely each species we encountered were in 3’s. There were 3 different; penguins Adelie, Gentoo, Chinstrap; seals Crabeaters, Leopard, Weddell; and whales Humpback, Fin, and Orca.

Three struck me. I have had 3 major chapters in my life; childhood, adulthood and now midlife. Each played a significant role in shaping who I am today. The above picture, taken by me, is significant. It is an iceberg which has been shaped by the environment it exists within. An iceberg is created when it is calved from a glacier.

I have been calved from everything I have known in my adult life. I worked, hard, to live in the environment I had chosen. I had success and I made choices along the way. Everything was influenced by my environment. This is typical of all people, regardless of age. We make choices early in our lives and we adjust based on our environmental factors.

This trip was only the catalyst that gave me the space and time to let the change occurring in my midlife to sink in. I have been 5+ months away from what was the most familiar environment to me; Corporate America. I used that time to grow in new ways. Recognizing the role I played in my life and accepting the journey that has brought me here.

What is new to me, and may resonate with you, is that unlike nature we have more choices. We can go through our lives and hand our power over to the environment in which we exist. Or we can take steps to shape our own lives. For the first time, I am willing to be vulnerable to; the uncertainty of life, the risk of making the wrong choice and the courage to speak directly. As a result I have never been happier in my life. I now attract what I want into my life.

As most of you reading this know, I chose to become a professional coach in August of 2015. I have begun my coaching practice. My new attitude is not because of this decision. It is because exposure to being coached has revealed the amazing power I have within myself. I am tapping into everything I know with a faith that I will be successful as long as I am my best authentic self.

That is why I believe in coaching and why I believe I am ready to coach others. The opportunity to reveal and to inspire my clients to find their own potential is so powerful. I want everyone to experience the transformation that awaits them if they are ready to take the step.

If you want to explore an area in your life, I would be happy to offer a free coaching session. Please connect with me via my contact page or my email link.
